History of Jones Chapel
A beacon of faith and fellowship with deep roots in our community since the 1830s
Jones Chapel’s History
Since the 1830s
Our story begins in 1830, long before the first log cabin served as our worship space. Over the decades, generations of families have filled our pews, weaving a tapestry of faith, service, and love under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Land Purchased in 1856
Our written records make references to actions being taken by the church in the 1830s, bearing witness to a congregation steadfast through times of change. Jones Chapel sits on the same land purchased in 1856 (left).
The current sanctuary, standing since 1892, has been a haven for worshipers, warmed by wood-burning stoves in winter and cooled by breezes in summer. It’s here that we’ve celebrated life’s milestones, supported each other through trials, and shared in the joy of community.
Embodied by it’s People
Jones Chapel’s spirit has been embodied by its people: from Mr. Buddy Coile’s insightful Bible teachings to Mrs. Hester Sartain’s passion for nurturing young believers. Our members, like Mr. Ray Cochran with his resonant choir notes, Mr. Max Sartain’s dedication to guiding our youth in the Boy Scouts, and many others have been the heart of our church.
With the addition of our educational complex in 1972, we deepened our commitment to learning and growing in faith. The parsonage and stained-glass windows, added in the 1980s, further symbolize our devotion to creating a spiritual home for all who seek it.
Through the Years
Today, Jones Chapel stands as a vibrant community of believers. Our choir uplifts hearts, our missions extend help both near and far, and our children’s programs instill love and values in our youngest members. From serving BBQ chicken to engaging in global missions, we’ve never lost sight of our purpose: to help everyone who wishes to grow closer to Christ enjoy a safe and welcoming place to worship.
Jones Chapel may have evolved in its physical form, but the essence of our church remains unchanged. It’s the people, their faith, and their love of Christ that truly define us. We invite you to join us in this journey of faith, fellowship, and service.
