“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”

Jones Chapel is now officially a member of the Global Methodist Church. What does that mean for Jones Chapel? While some changes will be subtle, it does mean we are part of a new denomination united around a common mission. I invite you to go to the Global Methodist Church main website (globalmethodist.org) and to the North Georgia GMC website (ngagmc.org). Both websites will provide helpful information.

The Mission of the Global Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.

The mission is explained further:

“In our worship, we desire to surrender to and be fully devoted to one God—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We are passionate about what is important to God.

Jesus calls those who follow Him to love God wholeheartedly and love their neighbors as themselves. Our desire is to demonstrate to the world the extravagant love of God in the person of Jesus Christ.

We have been entrusted with a lifesaving and transforming message that we must share with others. Our witness is bold, compelling and fearless. Our mission advances when individuals become disciples of Jesus Christ and join God’s mission to make more disciples.” It is exciting to be a part of the mission of the Global Methodist Church.

In the Welcome Letter we received, it was explained that since Jones Chapel is now a part of the Global Methodist Church, all professing members are also now a part of the Global Methodist Church. Anyone who is not yet a professing member of Jones Chapel has the opportunity to join us on our mission. If you are not yet a professing member of Jones Chapel and would like more information about what is involved, please let me know. I would be glad to answer any questions you have.

This coming Sunday, January 14, we are remembering the Baptism of the Lord. Each of us will also be remembering our own baptism. As a pastor, I have found these remembrances meaningful not only to me personally but to the congregations I have served as well. I hope you will be able to join us Sunday in worship.
