“Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.”

As you know, my family and I have a history with the people of Jones Chapel. Previously, we spent 10 years worshipping, growing, and serving with many of you. This past Sunday, I was reminded of the most precious gift we have received in our time at Jones Chapel: love. You all loved us then and continue to love us in this season of life.

We gathered together Sunday afternoon to celebrate the upcoming birth of Cait and Thomas’s first child. You surrounded them and Joe and me with love. You shared in our excitement. Thank you for the many ways you showered them and us with your love! We love you and give thanks to God for you. You are telling the next generation about God’s mighty acts of love.

As I thought about Sunday, I was reminded of what I think is one of the greatest blessings of the people of Jones Chapel. You all love one another deeply. Whether it is shown through acts of kindness to celebrate the joy another person or family is experiencing or whether it is shown through acts of compassion as you walk alongside a person or family who is struggling and grieving, you love one another deeply. It is a beautiful thing to watch and a beautiful thing to experience.

Your love stretches beyond the walls of the church building and into the lives of others. Good times, sad times, and everything in between. You have a heart for ALL people. You love deeply.

“Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.”

I hope in this changing season of struggles and uncertainty within the Church and without, that you will continue to love one another with a love that bears witness to those inside and outside the church of the awesome love of God. For God’s love is deep.

God’s love is steadfast. God’s love is eternal!
